Objectives of the Course

To teach the characteristics, durations of actions, side effects and commercial forms of anesthetic agents used for general anesthesia and sedation in dentistry. To describe systemic signs and symptoms, prevention and treatment methods of emergency situations that may arise in the postoperative period. To teach the postoperative pain management. To give information to the dentistry students about recognition of cardiopulmonary arrest due to anaphylaxis or systemic causes and basic life support and emergency response techniques to be applied in these situations.

Course Content

The history of general anesthesia in dentistry, anesthesic agents and methods, emergencies which may be encountered in dental anesthesia, complications and their recognition criterias, systematic treatment in the emergency intervention.
