To introduce dental students to infectious diseases, and raise their awareness of how to protect themselves and their patients from infections. The course aims to develop responsibility in preventing infections, diagnosing them, referring to a specialist, or initiating treatment when appropriate.
Terminology and basic concepts in infectious diseases Approach to patients with infections Modes of transmission of infectious diseases Oropharyngeal infections Head and neck infections Differential diagnosis of infectious diseases in dentistry Infection control and sterilization Infectivity and prevention in HIV and hepatitis cases Use of antibiotics and indications for prophylaxis
