1. To have information about the scope and sources of the History of Turkish Democracy 2. To comprehend the political and democratic heritage inherited from the Ottoman Empire

Course Content

The concept of democracy, historical origins; First Assembly, TPCF and SCF trials, elections in one party, independent parliamentary, Independent Group; Democracy in the world between the First and the Second World War; The transition to multi-party life and the period of the Democratic Party; military coups in Turkey; constitutions in Turkey; Political and social developments in Turkey between 1960-1980; Problems and possibilities of Turkish democracy
