Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is; to have the ability to know and use the basic concepts and terms related to literature, to have knowledge about the major theories and movements related to literature.

What is literature? What is its place in other arts and sciences? What is literary theory, criticism, history? What is the relationship of literature with other social sciences? What are the basic concepts and terms related to literature? What are the main literary movements? What are the major literary theories?

Learning Outcomes
1.o know the terms and concepts related to literature with their definitions, to be able to use them and to associate them with other terms and concepts.
2.To know important theories about literature and to be able to benefit from them while analyzing texts.
3.To know the basic features of literary movements, to be able to identify these features in literary texts and to be able to evaluate the texts in this respect.
4.Knows the place of literature in other arts and sciences

Week 1 - Theoretical
Course content, purpose, importance, resources to be used.
Week 2 - Theoretical
What is art? What is a work of art? What are the branches of art? What is the place of literature in other branches of art? What is a literary work? What are the main features?
Week 3 - Theoretical
What are the functions of the literary work? What are the differences between literary, everyday and scientific languages?
Week 4 - Theoretical
What is science? What is the place of literature in science? Branches of literary science: What is literary theory, literary history, literary criticism? Explaining the relationship between them.
Week 5 - Theoretical
The relationship of literature with other social sciences: literature and psychology, literature and sociology. Classification of Turkish literature.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Basic concepts of literature.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Major literary movements: Classicism.
Week 8 - Theoretical
