Objectives of the Course

To provide basic information about 14th – 16th century Turkish Literature and to introduce important poets with their selected works.

Course Content

Studying selected texts from 14th to 16th century Turkish Literature. Studies on the linguistic approach, social conditions and world view during that period. Basic features of Divan Literature, prominent styles and important representatives.

Classical Turkish Literature, area, field, periods and the naming problem (Divan literature, Old Turkish Literature, Islamic Turkish Literature, Classical Turkish Literature..
Week 3 - Theoretical
Establisment of Classical Turkish Literature at Anatolia in XI.- XIII. century. Overview of the pre-classical period of Classical Turkish Literature in XIV. Basic resources.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Assemblies of poetry which grew up around poets and sultan poets of Anatolia in XV. century. Murâdî (II.Murad), Avnî (Fatih Sultan Mehmet), Adlî (II.Bayezid), Cem Sultan, Harîmî (Şehzade Korkut).
Week 5 - Theoretical
The three great masters of poetry: Şeyhi, Necati, Ahmet Paşa.
