Objectives of the Course

Basics of Divan Literature, to be able to recognize certain species and major representatives of it.

Course Content

Review studies on selected texts of Turkish Literature in 17.-18. century. The basic logic of the measure of aruz. Problems encountered in the teaching of aruz. Measure of aruz to teach its melody. Teaching literature to use the measure of aruz in Turkish and modern working methods and method development.

Learning Outcomes
1.Access to resources and the acquisition of basic skills to use in Classical Turkish Literature.
2.To be able to understand the nature of science of literature and gaining knowledge about the basic concepts of using them.
3.To be able to recognition the basic types and shapes of Classical Turkish Literature.
4.To be able to have knowledge the overall social structure, systems of thought and political aspect of 17.-18. century.
5.Recognition of the major representatives of the area of Classical Turkish Litarature in 17.-18. century
6.To be able to develop sensitivity to language and literature on a selection of texts in the area of Classical Turkish Literature

Meter as the basic rules of prosody and prosody applications.

An overwiew of the XVII. century, political and cultural views of this century.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Nabi and tell wisdom poetry.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Annotation and sound analysis of Nabi's ghazalis (prosody applications).
Week 7 - Theoretical
Naili, Neshati and general information about and examples of poetry in Sebk-i Hindî (prosody applications).
Week 8 - Theoretical
An overview of the XVIII. century, political and cultural views of this century. (Midterm exam)
Week 9 - Theoretical
Nedim and localization researching.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Nedim, commentary and audio review of ghazalis (prosody application).
Week 11 - Theoretical
Sheikh Galib and the last step in deepening the meaning .

Sheikh Galib and his mesnevi: Husn and Aşk.
