Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to give general information about linguistics and to introduce basic areas of linguistics. phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, lexicon, psychodilcience, sociodilcience, synirdilcience, discourse analysis, such as the ability to give detailed information about the study areas, World Languages to make data analysis on these study areas.

Course Content

Various definitions of language, general information about world languages; 20. a historical overview of language studies in eastern and Western traditions until the beginning of the century; 20th century. the emergence of the concept of linguistics in the century; branches and fields of study of linguistics; Ferdinand de Saussure and the structuralist theory of linguistics (Geneva School of Linguistics). Language science schools that adopted structuralist understanding; Prague School, French functionalism (Andre Martinet), Gustave Guillame and Psychomechanics, Copenhagen School and Glosematics, American structuralism (Franz Boas, Edward Sapir, Leonard Bloomfield, Zellig Sabbetai Harris), Noam Chomsky and productive transformational linguistic theory, linguistic theories of linguistic origin. Associating theories with language teaching at theoretical and practical level.

1.Have general knowledge about linguistics.
2.Gain the ability to comment on the position of Turkish among the world languages.
3.Analyze data about linguistic categories and linguistic processes.
4.Gain general knowledge in the fields of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, psychodilology, textual, discourse analysis, neuroscience.
5.Gain a cognitive approach to language.
