Week 1 - Theoretical
Basic concepts in communication process: the necessity of communication, elements of the communication process, types/functions of communication, communication models, communication competence, misconceptions about communication
Week 2 - Theoretical
Basic concepts in communication process: the necessity of communication, elements of the communication process, types/functions of communication, communication models, communication competence, misconceptions about communication
Week 3 - Theoretical
Perception in communication 1: The process of perception, perceiving the others, effective processes in perceiving the others. Perception & culture, empathy &perception. Is it possible to achieve beter perception?
Week 4 - Theoretical
Perception in communication 2: Perceiving the self. The concept of ego/self in interpersonal communication, self-esteem, self-awareness, self-fulfilling prophecy, public & private selves, identity management.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Verbal communication 1: Language, thinking and meaning. Ways of finding solutions, problems with verbal communication. Nature/Power of Language. Troublesome Language
Week 6 - Theoretical
Non-verbal communication 1: Ways and manners of non-verbal coommunication, body language and its effects. Characteristics/Functions of non-verbal communication. Influences on non-verbal communication.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Non-verbal communication 2: Types of non-verbal communication. Expressing feelings: Why aren’t feelings directly expressed? Guide to effective expression of feelings.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Listening in interpersonal communication: Personal listening styles, effective listening, misconceptions about listening, personal listening styles, types of listening (emphatic, informational, critical). (Midterm exam)
