Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to discuss the concepts of crisis, death, loss, mourning process, ensuring the comfort of the patient whose death is approaching, supporting the individual and the family in the terminal period and maintaining the quality of life, hospice services and other organizations, palliative care team, their roles and functions.

Course Content

During the palliative care process, control of the primary disease, evaluation of physical symptoms, diagnosis of spiritual, social, economic and end-of-life needs of the patient and their family requiring palliative care, the care process, and effective coping with the mourning period.

Roles of nurses in palliative care, Hospice and End of Life Care,
Week 3 - Theoretical
Assessing the quality of life of the individual in need of palliative care and determining the care needs
Week 4 - Theoretical
Communication with the patient and family in palliative care, cultural beliefs (team, patient, family), cultural evaluation, spiritual evaluation
Week 5 - Theoretical
Pediatric palliative care and approach to the family
Week 6 - Theoretical
Palliative Care Services: Current situation in our country

Pain Management, pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods in pain control

Management of Common Symptoms: Respiratory symptoms (Dyspnea and cough) (MIDTERM EXAM)

Management of GI Symptoms (Anorexia/Cachexia, constipation, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting) and maintenance of nutrition
