Objectives of the Course

This pre-intermediate level course focuses entirely on listening-speaking - based, functional, real-life situations to prepare students for social and academic life. Corpus-informed spoken English is used to provide authentic examples of formal and informal speech during the course. The course is also designed to help students to become better speakers using speaking strategies. Integrated grammar lessons are also incorporated to the course so that students can communicate effectively as well.

Course Content

During this course, students find opportunities to improve their speaking and listening skills about asking for information about buying and selling items, asking for personal information/giving directions, talking about diet,exercise using appropriate vocabulary, giving suggestions and talking about study habits, using special strategies for conversations, expressing necessity and obligation, asking for help and obligation using the correct structures, explaining problems, asking for and following directions correctly, listening for main ideas/details, using hesitation strategies correctly in a conversation, identifying clarity and politeness in voice messages, identifying rising/falling intonation, sentence stress, reductions, using the rules of related grammar points like Present Simple, collocations, modals, Past Simple and Future tenses correctly in conversation.
