Objectives of the Course

To aim to describe the basic teaching strategies, specialized instructional techniques, assessment techniques, and attitudes towards persons with handicaps.

Course Content

Eye structure and visual phenomena (cornea-sclera, vascular layer, retina, yellow spot, optic nerve, lens, iris), definition of visual impairment, causes and symptoms of visual impairment, classification and types of visual impairment (normal, low vision and blind), developmental characteristics of children with visual impairment (motor development, cognitive development, language development, personal and social adaptation characteristics and game skills), diagnosis and evaluation of visual impairment, education of visually impaired children (educational environments (lighting, location of furniture, duration, contrast, color), training programs (sensory integration, training of academic skills, training of independent movement skills, training of language and communication skills, social interaction and independent life skills training, leisure time and vocational training), family education in visual impairment, assistive technologies in visual impairment, activities that support the development of visually impaired children.
