Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to introduce theoretical and practical issues in development economics and to develop critical and analytical thinking abilities of the students in development policies.

Course Content

The course offers a theoretical and comparative view on the economic development process. In doing this students delve into issues regarding to major areas such as role of savings and investment, poverty and inequality, migration, informal economy, environment, and externalities of human capital an health.

1.Will be able to analyze the main pillars of development economics in both analytical and policy terrains.
2.Will be able to explain the functioning of markets in less developed countries.
3.Will be able to follow the recent development economics literature.
4.To be able to discuss differences between underdeveloped, developing and developed countires in a traditional and new development theories
5.To be able to evaluate sustainability of development for developed countries
