Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to follow the developments in the field of graphic design in our country and other countries and to conduct new research with the scientific publications examined in the field.

Course Content

Making explanations about communication and graphic communication historically. Relating topics to daily life by creating a discussion environment. Making various applications and writing articles related to graphics subjects.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
Informing students about the content, purpose and target behaviors of the course. Giving explanations about communication and graphic communication. Relating topics to daily life by creating a discussion environment. Assignment 1- Translation of an article selected from current publications on graphic communication
Week 2 - Theoretical
Giving explanations about design and graphic design process, graphic design principles and visualization of design.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Explanation of illustration and stylization concepts. Explaining the purposes of use of illustration and stylization with examples. Assignment 2- Illustration of a news story selected from the current (political, social, economic) events of the period with a humorous approach.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Explanation of illustration and stylization concepts. Explaining the purposes of use of illustration and stylization with examples. Assignment 2- Illustration of a news story selected from the current (political, social, economic) events of the period with a humorous approach.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Explaining the importance of graphic arts in modern life and their use in advertising applications with examples.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Explaining with examples about typographic communication, one of the application areas of graphic arts. Assignment 3- Preparation of a research paper that reconciles typographic communication with the subject of graphic symbols

Explaining the development of graphic design and printing techniques in the Industrial Revolution with examples.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Article writing on the development of graphic design and printing techniques in the Industrial Revolution.
Week 9 - Theoretical
Explaining the topics of Arts and Craft and Art Nouveau movement with examples
Week 10 - Theoretical & Practice
Making Arts and Craft, Art Nouveau style poster designs.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Explaining the subjects of Russian Suprematism and Constructivism with examples.
Week 12 - Theoretical & Practice
Creating poster designs suitable for the Russian Suprematism and Constructivism periods.
