Objectives of the Course

The course provides a historical, institutional and structural framework necessary for students to analyze the main characters of the current problems of the Turkish economy.

Course Content

The course provides a historical, institutional and structural framework necessary for students to analyze the main characters of the current problems of the Turkish economy. In this sense, processes and concepts such as national economy, statism, liberal harmony, import substitution period, open capital domination, financialization and hot money sovereignty will be discussed in detail.

1.Students will be able to explain the historical background of the Turkish economy from the late Ottoman period to the 2000s.
2.Students will be able to relate the important change and development processes observed in the Turkish economy with international political and economic breaks.
3.Students will be able to discuss the historical, social and political roots of the current structural problems of the Turkish economy.
4.Students will be able to analyze the main production and distribution channels that shape the Turkish economy throughout the century.
