Objectives of the Course

This course aims to examine the psychological foundations of parenting and parent-child relationships, the effects of these relationships on child development, and strategies for establishing healthy parent-child relationships.

Course Content

Within the scope of this course, students will address topics such as individuals' transition processes to parenthood, motherhood and fatherhood, family systems, parental well-being, parenting styles, dynamic relationships between parenting and child development, the effects of cultural differences on parenting, and parenting challenges in modern society. Additionally, emphasis will be placed on evidence-based strategies and interventions to strengthen parent-child relationships and support children's psychosocial development.

Learning Outcomes
1.Students will be able to understand the basic theoretical approaches regarding parenting and parent-child relationships and the historical development of these theories.
2.Students will be able to analyze the effects of parenting practices on children's social and emotional development and evaluate these effects in the light of contemporary research.
3.Students will be able to describe parenting strategies that help children develop their skills in understanding, expressing and regulating emotions and the theoretical knowledge that underpins these strategies.
4.Students will be able to evaluate the effects of cultural differences on social and emotional development by examining parenting practices and parent-child relationships in different cultural contexts.
5.Students will be able to transform theoretical knowledge into practical applications in order to strengthen parent-child relationships and support children's social-emotional development.
