Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to enable students to discuss social psychological theories and explanations of intergroup relations, intergroup attitudes, prejudice, conflict processes and conflict resolution.

Course Content

The course covers intergroup relations; stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination; social identities; theories of intergroup relations; social identity theory, self-categorisation theory, terror management theory, system legitimation theory; intergroup contact; intergroup conflict in real life; intergroup conflict resolution; social change and peace.
