Objectives of the Course

To critically examine the major themes of human thought and philosophy in the pre-modern era and to provide a foundation for graduate students pursuing studies in philosophy. This course aims to provide students with a global understanding and internalization of classical philosophy.

Course Content

Presocratic philosophy, ancient Greek philosophy, Indo-Chinese philosophical traditions, Plato, Aristotle, commentators, medieval philosophy and the transition to the modern period.

2026
