Objectives of the Course

The purpose of this Economic Growth course is to provide master's level students with a comprehensive understanding of the theories, determinants, and dynamics of economic growth. This course also aims to explore the factors that contribute to sustained increases in a nation's production capacity and standards of living over time. By the end of this course, students will develop a sophisticated understanding of the theories, empirical evidence, and policy implications surrounding economic growth. They will be equipped with the analytical tools and skills necessary to contribute to scholarly research, policymaking, and practical interventions aimed at fostering sustained and inclusive economic growth in both national and global contexts.

Course Content

This master's level course delves into the theories, measurements, and policy implications surrounding economic growth. This course will explore the concept of economic growth, how it is measured, and the various factors that drive it. Some topics to be covered include: income differences between countries, measurement of economic growth, determinants of economic growth, and its theoretical foundations.

1.Students will demonstrate a thorough understanding of neoclassical theory of economic growth, and their implications for policy and practice.
2.Students will be able to analyze the roles of technological progress, physical capital investment, human capital accumulation, and innovation in driving economic growth.
3.Students will critically evaluate empirical studies to assess the impact on economic growth of different policies and strategies implemented by countries around the world.
4.Students will apply growth models, econometric techniques, and computational tools to analyze real-world data, conduct policy simulations, and evaluate growth-oriented interventions.
5.Students will develop critical thinking skills and the ability to independently research and analyze growth-related topics, contributing to scholarly research and policy analysis in economics.
