There are sub departments of Prehistory, Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology and Classical Archaeology. The staff, apart from their educational activities, has been conducting excavations, surveys and museum research where the students also take part. Elective courses are also offered on these subjects and students can also choose other elective courses from various program of the university. It is aimed to train students to become creative individuals, who are capable of conducting scientific research, questioning knowledge and thinking critically, utilizing contemporary technology, sensitive to social and environmental problems.
History
Department of Archaeology was established in 1993. This is one of the first organizations for the archaeological research and protection of the cultural heritage of the Western Anatolia.
Mission
Our department, aiming to train expert archaeologists
Vision
Preservation and protection of monuments and archaeological sites. Conduct archaeological exploration and carryout archaeological excavation and publish the report. Carryout research activities on Anatolian history, culture and archaeology.
Purpose
Protection and maintenance of archaeological sites, ancient monuments including remains of national importance, museum and archive management are the main concern of Department of archaeology.
Physical Infrastructure
There is a fully-equipped classroom for Master's program. Students participate in related areas of studies include excavations and research conducted by department of faculty members.
