Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course; to teach virus origins and evolution and also classification according to nucleic acid, morphological, physicochemical and biological properties of viruses.

Course Content

Criteria for viral taxonomy, nomenclature, classification according to nucleic acid, morphological, physicochemical and biological properties of viruses. Genera and species belonging to the families of DNA and RNA viruses. General characters of viruses in these families and the diseases caused by these virus species.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Prof. Mehmet Tolga TAN
Learning Outcomes
1.know the general criteria in taxonomy of viruses
2.know classification according to nucleic acid, morphological, physicochemical and biological properties of viruses
3.learn general characters of virus species in these (RNA and DNA) families
4.learn the diseases caused by these virus species classified in the families
5.Students will be able to understand or develop strategies to combat viruses using and comparing the taxonomic features of viruses.
