Objectives of the Course

By means of the course, it is aimed that student will be able to discuss diasporas, a phenomenon increasing its significance within the field of international relations, gain extensive knowledge and increase her/his interpretation competency on basic theories of nationalism.

Course Content

Throughout the course, the changes and diversity within the meanings historically attributed to the concept of diaspora will be discussed, theoretical debates on diasporas will be presented.

1.To be able to acknowledge the necessity to define the concept of nationalism plularistically, will be able to analyze comparatively the conditions shaping different nationalisms.
2.To be able to compare and interpret different theories of nationalism.
3.To be able toanalyse the interaction between diaspora and nationalism, will be able to compare different diasporas.
4.To be able to make research about the political, economic, and social results of nationalism
5.To be able to demonstrate understanding the importance of nationalism and nation-state in order to have an extended perspective about International Relations
