The aim of this course is to enable students to examine conflict and peace within a theoretical and analytical framework and to develop their ability to analyse the causes, dynamics, and transformation processes of conflicts from different perspectives. The course seeks to enhance students’ understanding of major approaches to conflict analysis, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding while fostering the analytical skills necessary to critically evaluate contemporary international conflicts.
This course provides a comprehensive examination of the main concepts, theoretical approaches, and practical dimensions of peace and conflict studies. It explores the concept of conflict, the causes and types of conflicts, the historical development of peace and conflict studies, theoretical approaches to conflict, and methods of conflict analysis. The course also examines negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and the role of international organizations in conflict resolution, while addressing peacemaking, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and alternative paradigms of conflict resolution. By combining theoretical and analytical perspectives, the course equips students with the skills necessary to critically analyse conflict and peace processes in contemporary international politics.
