This course aims to equip students with the ability to analyze the relationship between geography, power, and politics by addressing the fundamental concepts, theoretical development, and classical/critical approaches of geopolitics; and to evaluate global power struggles from the Cold War to the present day and Turkey's geopolitical position within a theoretical framework.
This course examines the development of geopolitical thought from its origins to the present day. Classical geopolitical theories (land/sea dominance, periphery), neoclassical and critical geopolitics; the Cold War and post-Cold War era; and the impact of globalization on geopolitics are studied. Middle Eastern geopolitics and Turkey's geopolitical position and political options are evaluated within a theoretical framework.
