Objectives of the Course

The purpose of this course is to teach students basic information about oncology and cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment methods.

Course Content

In this lecture the basic concepts and principles of oncology are discussed. Thus, this lesson focuses on nursing interventions at primary and secondary levels of cancer and prevention from cancer, which is a major health problem affecting the individium and the families. It describes also further the management of the symptoms of cancer and seen frequently during treatment of cancer.

1.To be able to define the basic concepts related to the process of carcinogenesis and oncology
2.To be able to explain epidemiology and common cancers, in the world and Turkey
3.To be able to identify specifying ranges of cancer screening tests and the implementation of these tests
4.To be able to explain Side effects of these treatment methods used in cancer treatment
5.To be able to determine the appropriate nursing approaches for the prevention and treatment of cancer
6.To be able to plan nursing interventions for improving the quality of life in oncology patients
