Department of Microbiology is providing theoretical and practical abilities for Veterinary Medicine students in the area of prophylactic medicine, technological developments about veterinary medicine, bacterial and viral zoonoses in domestic, aquatic animals and poultry. There are 7 lecturers and 1 research assistant on duty currently.

Department of Microbiology was founded in 1994 within the Department of Diseases and Clinical Sciences. In 2006, after the number of departments increased to 5, the Department of Microbiology was connected to Preclinical Sciences. Prof. Dr. Şükrü KIRKAN is currently on duty for the head of department.

Our mission is to educate postgraduate students who are capable of evaluating the epidemiology, etiology, laboratory diagnosis and therapy of bacterial and viral zoonoses, who are aware of the importance of public health and prophylactic medicine, who can follow technological developments and who are attached to Ataturk’s Principles and Revolutions.

Our vision is to become a department which is fully equipped about veterinary microbiology, is able to educate specialists who can adapt to scientific and technological developments in order to conduct economically and scientifically valuable research.
