Objectives of the Course

During the course "The Press in Ottoman Empire and the Formation of the Dissident Press", it is aimed to understand the formation process of the press and the emergence of dissident press in Ottoman Empire by taking events, places and actors into consideration.

Course Content

During the course, the term “press” and first movements of Press, Ottoman examples of it, the first Ottoman newspaper, the first private newspapers and the first dissident behaviours in the press and the emergence of “dissident press” will be examined. Along with these, the first regulations concerning the press, the image of the Ottoman press in abroad and Ottoman’s intellectul life of late period and its effects on the press, constitutional rule and the “freedom” of the press, state regulations, Sultan Abdulhamid II and press, Ittıhat ve Terakki and Ottoman press will also be studied.
