Objectives of the Course

This course focus on how concepts and phenomena such as identity, ethnicity and nationalism are understood and discussed in today's world.

Course Content

In this course, it is focused on the issues such as ethnicity as a term; ethnicity, race, nation; ethnicity and class; mode of ethnic relationship; analytical concepts and local concepts; social organization of cultural differences; ethnicity and ideology; races and racism; what is nationalism?; the theories of classical nationalism; the theories of new nationalism; the debate of ethnicity and nationalism; migrations, diaspora and ethnicity; majority and minority relations.

Learning Outcomes
1.Understanding the main concepts and discussions about identity, ethnicity and nationalism
2.To be able to define and understand the basic debates and theories about the concepts of identity, ethnicity and nationalism in the modern and postmodern era.
3.To have an advanced level of knowledge in identity, ethnicity and nationalism and to be able to relate it to current social theory.
4.To be able to comprehend the changing nature and change dynamics of the phenomena and concepts studied from the modern era to the postmodern revolution.
5.To improve the ability to demonstrate a critical and objective approach in analyzing concepts of identity. ethnicity and nationalism.
