Objectives of the Course

In this course, the issues of how the human body, health and illness are fictionalized in modern societies unlike previous periods and the critical approaches to the production of the modern medical knowledge and health practices will be discussed in the context of capitalism, class inequalities and power relations.

Course Content

In this way, especially it’s aimed at query the commercialized/corporatized understanding of health services and the health practices that slides from patient-doctor relations to client-vendor in today’s World. In this context. current sociological analysis will be carried out regarding with issues such as health systems, medical genocide, corporatized medicine, physical control, bio-power and bio-ethics.

1.Understanding the main concepts and discussions about health, disease and body
2.To be able to define and understand the basic debates and theories about the concepts of health, disease and body in the modern and postmodern era.
3.To have an advanced level of knowledge in health, disease and body and to be able to relate it to current social theory.
4.To be able to comprehend the changing nature and change dynamics of the phenomena and concepts studied from the modern era to the postmodern revolution.
5.To improve the ability to demonstrate a critical and objective approach in analyzing concepts of health, disease and body
