Objectives of the Course

Contrary to modern social theories’ expectation, the influence of religion on politics and society has been increasing. Focusing on the recent political, economic and cultural changes in modern societies, this course aims to help students develop their theoretical knowledge and analytical thinking on the relationship between religion, politics and society from a comparative perspective.

Course Content

The topics include classical sociological theories on religion and secularization, rise of religious movements in modern societies, relationship between the state and religion in Europe, in the US and Muslim countries.
