Objectives of the Course

In this course, we will discuss how and why political action has been affected by these processes from past to present by revealing the relationship between changes in social structure and ideologies. It will be examined how modern ideologies have been affected by social change during the 20th century after the birth of the French Revolution. In the course, globalization, individualization, identity politics and new models of political action will be reviewed and social change will be discussed in the context of current theories and examples.

Course Content

The ideologies such as liberalism, conservatism, socialism, fascism, feminism, ecological ideologies, nationalism, which emerged from the French First of all, the relationship of the change of modern ideologies during the twentieth century with the social structure and political action will be examined. Then, issues such as globalization, individualization, and the rise of identity politics, which emerged in the 90s, paved the way for post-industrial transformation will be examined. Finally, it will focus on the reflections of the dominant social structure, political structure and collective action strategies on populist movements.

Learning Outcomes
1.Comprehension of the main conceptual and theoretical debates about social change, ideology and political action debates; To have knowledge in the field of social change, ideology and political action debates and to establish the link between social structure and political action.
2.While trying to understand and interpret the rise of social change, ideology and political action, it is necessary to use an interdisciplinary perspective
3.Ability to conduct empirical research by using sociological methods and techniques by relating current sociological theories with an interdisciplinary perspective while trying to understand and interpret social change, ideology and political action increases;
4.Ability to analyze the changing social structure by taking into account the causes and consequences of existing social inequalities while analyzing the relations between social and political variables, especially taking into account processes such as globalization;
5.To gain the ability to critically evaluate current issues and inquiries in this field while discussing issues of Social Change, Ideology and Political Action;
