Objectives of the Course

The main purpose of this course will be to examine the relationship between communication and culture. It is necessary to examine this relationship in line with the understanding of today's social conditions. Based on this point, our course will also cover discussions within the framework of topics such as communication, mass communication, new communication technologies and culture.

Course Content

The effects of communication and cultural phenomena in the direction of the formation of socio-cultural structure are an accepted reality. It is essential to examine sociologically the relationship between the mass media, which is defined as the "4th power" today, and culture. From this point of view, it is important to reveal the relationship between communication and culture. Understanding this relationship will also “help to understand many dimensions of daily life”.

Learning Outcomes
1.Understanding the concepts of communication, mass communication, new communication technologies, culture and current academic discussions in this direction.
2.To be able to evaluate the debates on the effects of new communication technologies in the social context.
3.Acquiring the ability to conduct sociological research on discussions in the context of communication, mass communication, new communication technologies and culture.
4.To be able to understand the dynamics of change of new communication technologies on the social structure.
5.Evaluation of the discussions within the framework of communication, mass communication, new communication technologies and culture from a critical point of view.
