As one of the oldest engineering disciplines, civil engineering has offered solutions to many basic needs and problems that human beings have faced over the course of many years. Due to the rapid increase in population, improving technology, and dependently varying production models, Civil Engineering has currently become one of the leading professions maintaining civilization. Moreover, development in computer technologies makes Civil Engineering an area approaching physical problems more extensively and suggesting effective solutions.
Aydın Adnan Menderes University Department of Civil Engineering Graduate Program aims to educate proficient engineers and researchers, providing new expansions to versatile engineering problems. In this regard, under the Graduate Program, there are subfields of Structure, Mechanics, Transportation, Construction Management, Hydraulic/Water Resources, and Geotechnics within which graduate research are conducted. The Master of Science (MSc) program is composed of 4 semesters. Generally, the first two semesters of studies are densely reserved for course work, whereas research and thesis preparation is undertaken in the last two semesters.
History
The Faculty of Engineering was established in 2008 within the body of Aydın Adnan Menderes University, encapsulating the Department of Civil Engineering. Civil Engineering Graduate Program started its activities in the 2017-2018 academic year under the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences umbrella. The program accepted its first students in 2017. Today, English and Turkish Master's Programs and postgraduate education activities are carried out with the number of students exceeding 30.
Mission
Graduate Engineers pursuing the Master of Engineering (Civil) program gain specialized knowledge and skills in advanced civil engineering. Among the topics covered by this degree are Structural Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Project Management, Water Resources Engineering, Transportation Planning and Engineering disciplines.
The curriculum includes core subjects in professional communications and engineering, innovation and design, structural design based on Turkish standards, advanced computer applications, sustainable roads, construction management and engineering research methods. Students majoring in civil engineering will study advanced foundation engineering, advanced soil mechanics, engineering hydrology, tunneling, underground construction, stratified flows, building information model, application of artificial intelligence methods in engineering. Additionally, you will complete a master science thesis.
Vision
Our vision is to be a program that train engineers who aim to transform science and technology for the benefit of our country and humanity, who are sensitive to the needs of society, who know how to learn, research and question, who can practice and research at international standards, who are aware of their professional and ethical responsibilities, who have leadership qualities, and to contribute to science.
Purpose
It is vital for our university, located in the Aegean region of our country, where active fault lines are located, to educate competent civil engineers in the civil engineering field. In this context, the most significant aim of civil engineering graduate education is to educate civil engineers who can conduct scientific research in a scientific sense by specializing in the subjects learned in undergraduate education, develop individual and teamwork skills, conduct analytical, model-based, and experimental research on the application of new technologies, and have effective communication and working skills in national and international fields. In this scope, by increasing the number of educated civil engineers, it is aimed to contribute to the country's economy by developing more economical, sustainable, and innovative methods by conducting academic and scientific studies and minimizing the casualties in natural disasters that occur in our country.
Physical Infrastructure
Courses are held in 30 lecture halls with 70 seat capacity, equipped with computers, internet connection, and projectors, in Aydın Menderes Lecture Hall Building. In post-graduate research, geotechnical, hydraulics, transportation materials, transportation planning, Traffic Engineering, and Structural Engineering laboratories are utilized. Post-graduate lectures, seminars, and thesis presentations are held in a 50-seat-capacity Engineering Faculty meeting hall and 20-seat-capacity Engineering Faculty post-graduate lecture hall equipped with computers, internet connection, and projectors.
Technical Infrastructure
The Civil Engineering Department has approximately 800 m2 space for laboratories. In the laboratories separated according to the divisions, the basic equipment needed for the analyses is available. Moreover, equipment purchases continue to carry out more specific experiments.
