Objectives of the Course

To identify the aggregates, binders and admixtures that make up concrete at the specialist level; to design and analyse concrete; and to carry out experimental studies on concrete.

Course Content

To acquire comprehensive knowledge of concrete technologies, to identify the materials that make up concrete, to be able to perform concrete mix design calculations, and to acquire knowledge of and carry out fresh concrete tests.

Learning Outcomes
1.To acquire knowledge about concrete constituents and understand the properties of aggregates and cement.
2.To gain knowledge of concrete mixing water and admixtures.
3.To acquire knowledge about the production, placement and curing of concrete.
4.To perform concrete mix design calculations.
5.To gain knowledge of concrete testing and conduct compressive strength tests in a laboratory environment; to understand the procedures for sampling and storage of concrete specimens.
6.To perform slump tests and core sampling and conduct aggregate sieve analysis in a laboratory environment.
