Objectives of the Course

Teaching the fundamental concepts of simulation models; Teaching the possibilities and methods for using simulation models in the development of transportation infrastructure; Teaching the possibilities and methods for using simulation models in the transportation planning process; Develop mathematical simulation models of transportation and traffic problems and carrying out various performance measurements

Course Content

Introduction to simulation (definitions and principles); simulation model development methodology; classification and key characteristics of simulation models; statistical analysis of simulation data; macroscopic, mesoscopic and microscopic simulation models; comparison of simulation models; capacity analysis simulation models (basic concepts); signal timing simulation models (basic concepts); transportation planning simulation models (basic concepts); an example of developing a simulation model; application of traffic simulation models.

1.will be able to specify the fundamental flowchart of a simulation model that is composed of several processes
2.will be able to plan a simulation model with the appropriate advanced data collection equipments specific to problem being dealt with
3.will be able to propose the appropriate real-time solution strategy and/or method specific for a simulation model
4.Will be able to use simulation programs and evaluate their results
5.Will be able to analyze and resolve transportation and traffic problems using simulation softwares
