The specific objectives of the Course follow: To provide the student with knowledge of the history, current issues, trends, and problems in the field of school counseling To orient the student to the organization, processes, activities, and concerns of the leading professional associations in the fields of school counseling To facilitate and develop student skills in understanding and evaluating the professional literature of the field of school counseling To develop skills in preparing professional papers for publication and formal presentation. To facilitate student involvement in professional activity and decision-making. To create within the student an awareness of and sensitivity to the dynamics of professional activity and work, and a high sense of professionalism and responsibility. To provide a knowledge and understanding of professional ethics and standards for school counselors and other applicable professional associations. To orient the student to background information and issues related to diversity, multiculturalism, and special clientele groups as related to the work of the school counselor
The course includes activities of examination, discussion and evaluation of subjects that are choiced by students and cited or published in especialy in journals. These activities are stated below: Current issues, trends, and problems in the field of counseling and guidance Various professional roles of the school counselor Training and supervision in school counseling Diversity and cross-cultural counseling (e.g., race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and immigrants), Ethics and legalities in practice school counseling Research and evaluation in school counseling Scholarly writing and publishing, professionalism and professional associations in school counseling Difficult therapeutic cases, Consultation and supervision in school counseling International perspectives on school counseling A number of other topics of the profession
