Objectives of the Course

The characterization of a strain is a key element in prokaryote systematics. Both classical phenotypic and molecular methods are used in bacteria identification. The aim of this course is to teach methods used in bacterial identification.

Course Content

Systematics of Bacteria, species concept in bacteriology, morphological and biochemical methods used in bacterial identification, PCR based methods, DNA-DNA hybridization, rapid identification test kits, identification and nomenclature of new species
