Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to give information about the formation of micronucleus, micronucleus detection technique and micronucleus detection in buccal cells.

Course Content

Micronucleus test is a useful bioassay, which to investigate the genotoxic and carcinogenic potentials of all kinds of chemical substances that we are frequently exposed to in everyday life such as physical agents, drugs, environmental pollutants and food additives in all plant, animal and human cells that have undergone mitosis. The increase in the frequency of occurrence of MN is considered as an indicator of damage to the genetic material.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to have knowledge about the structure and formation mechanism of micronuclei
2.Learns the environmental occupational risks that cause micronucleus formation
3.Learn the role of micronucleus in cell division kinetics
4.Define the techniques used in the determination of micronucleus
5.Learn buccal cells and how to determine micronuclei in buccal cells
6.Have information about the isolation of buccal cells, staining and how to count.
7.Learns the relationship between micronucleus frequency in buccal cells and cancer and other chronic diseases.
