Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to have knowledge about the state and nation building processes experienced in Central Asia and the Caucasus from the era of nationalism to the present.

Course Content

This course will focus on state and nation building processes in post-Soviet Central Asia and the Caucasus. The effect of Soviet Nations Policy on these processes will be discussed. The idea of nationalism dominating the post-Soviet states and the historical transformations in this thought will be analyzed in a comparative way.

1.The level of knowledge of the students about the theories of nationalism is increased.
2.The level of knowledge of students about nation and state building processes is increased.
3.Students get to know Central Asian and Caucasian countries in a historical perspective.
4.Students make comparisons between the nationalist movements of Central Asian and Caucasian countries.
5.Students are provided with knowledge about the dynamics of these states' post-1991 nation and state-building projects.
