Objectives of the Course

To discuss Turkey's Central Asia and Caucasus policy with a historical perspective, to enable the students to comprehend the reasons for the changes in Turkish foreign policy regarding Central Asia and the Caucasus.

Course Content

Within the scope of this course, the relations between Turkey and the eight republics that emerged in Central Asia and the Caucasus after gaining their independence from the Soviet Union will be examined from a historical perspective. The main dynamics of Turkey's policy towards the region will be discussed, and the reasons for the continuity and ruptures in these dynamics will be analyzed.

1.It is ensured that the student has information about the historical roots of Turkey-Central Asia/Caucasus relations.
2.Students comprehend the factors affecting the formation of Turkish foreign policy towards Central Asia and the Caucasus.
3.Gain knowledge of the impact of the global transformation experienced during and immediately after the collapse of the USSR on Turkish foreign policy.
4.The views of the Central Asian-Caucasian states and societies towards Turkey are determined.
5.Evaluations are made about the present day of Turkey-Central Asia/Caucasus relations.
