The goal of this course is to introduce the advanced-level and recent topics in channel coding and decoding to the students and teach how to design and analyse a digital communication system with Turbo, LDPC and Polar Coding.
Channel capacity, classical coding and decoding techniques. Multilevel coding, multistage decoding. Soft decision decoding algorithms: MAP, LogMAP, Max-LogMAP, SOVA. Parallel concatenated (turbo) codes. Iterative decoding. Interleaving. Serial concatenated coding. Code design and error performance analysis. EXIT diagrams. Low density parity check (LDPC) coding. Message passing algorithms. Applications of turbo and LDPC coding. Coding and decoding for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channels.
| 1. | To understand classical and advanced-level channel coding and decoding techniques |
| 2. | To acquire knowledge about soft decision decoding algorithms |
| 3. | To understand parallel concatenated (Turbo) coding, serial concatenated coding and iterative decoding techniques, designing the systems, analyzing the error performance via computer simulation |
| 4. | To gain insight about LDPC coding and iterative decoding techniques, designing the systems, analyzing the error performance via computer simulation |
| 5. | To gain insight about polar coding and decoding techniques |
