Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to examine the Constitutional Experience in the Ottoman Empire in order to understand the conditions of the Republic of Turkey during the establishment process.

Course Content

One of the major events that marked the transition in the last century of Ottoman Empire was the constitutional rule. Constitutional Monarchy has caused very important social and political changes. Courses include the detailed review of the late Ottoman political life.

1.Students define the basic terms and concepts related to the late Ottoman political life
2.Students determine the basic approaches to political changes and developments in the last period of the Ottoman Empire.
3.Students explain the basic concepts related to Turkey's political life. They determine their own ideas about transformation of Turkish political opinion.
4.Students summarize important phases of political life in the Ottoman Empire.
5.Students apply the knowledge of Ottoman political life to Turkey’s political devolopments and historiography
6.Students interpret any political attitudes and the judgements using information coming from the comments on Turkey’s political devolopments.
