Objectives of the Course

To provide an understanding of the relationship between power and foundation-ulema, to show how effective forms of knowledge-power relations are in the development of science and in the development of societies. To explain that the way to develop and build a healthy society is through well-built patronage relations.

Course Content

In the Ottoman Empire, it is necessary to understand the place of the foundation in Islamic Law and the effects of political powers on foundation law in order to analyze power's the patronage policy on ulama. What is the relationship of the foundations with the political power? How has the relationship between the foundation and patronage developed? What effects did political authorities have on the foundation law? How did the change in foundation law transform the ulama? How did this change affect the intellectual world of the ulama? Etc. answers to questions will be given.
