Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to make the students to get the necessary information on the primary and secondary sources of the Ottoman History

Course Content

In this course, the national and the foreign sources of the Ottoman History will be analysed. Within this context the national and the foreign archives related to the Ottoman History will be examined. Turkish historians of the 19th century and their works will also be examined within the course context. Besides these newspapers, memoirs, travel books and the reports of the foreing consulates as the primary sources of the modern age of the Ottoman Empire will be read and analysed. Examining all these materials, the main goal of the course will be to teach how to use these sources in order to understand the modern age of the Ottoman Empire.
