Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to enable the students to understand the importance of risk management and insurance in agriculture; and to equip them with the necessary skills to be able to analyse and evaluate the differences of risk management and insurance practices between countries. At theend of these mester the students are expected to be able to discuss on the most efficient risk management and insurance practices in agriculture, especially under the conditions in Turkey.

Course Content

Definitions of risk and uncertainty, types of risks, methods used in measurement of risk, risk management strategies (undertaking of risks, sharing of risks, on farm risk management), relation between risk and insurance, risk and uncertainty in agriculture, risk resources in agriculture, agricultural risk management strategies and tools, analysis of decision making under risk and uncertainty, attitudes of farmers against risk, policies toward agricultural risk management, examples of agricultural risk management policies from different countries, agricultural risk management policies in Turkey, importance of insurance forming risk in agriculture, types of agricultural insurance, insurance practices in Turkey and in different countries, analytical practices relating to risk in agriculture.
