The department is giving knowledge about clinic and laboratory diagnosis, life cycle, classification and treatment of infections caused by helmints, protozoons and arthropods in domestic animals, poultry, bees and aquatic animals and also practices are carried on the these topics.
History
Department of Parasitology was established in 1994 within Division of Clinical Sciences and Diseases. In 2006, Department of Parasitolgy was joined into Division of Preclinical Sciences. Prof.Dr. Serkan BAKIRCI is carrying out the head of department.
Mission
Our mission is educate veterinarians who; Are trained in modern and scientific education and bound to Ataturk’s principles and reforms, have the knowledge about biology of parasitic infections, Endowed with theoretical and practical knowledge as for every attemp for the diagnosis and treatment of parasitic infections in animals, Have expert knowledge about parasitic zoonozis and advanced consciousness about public health, Make the concept of preventive medicine and life-long learning and follow technological improvements, Produce contemporary scientific research and develop New and effective protection-control strategies against parasitic diseases.

Purpose
The aim of Department of Parasitology is to provide a fully equipped undergraduate student who has theoretical and practical knowlegde on diseases and treatment methods of diseases caused by parasites (helmints, protozoons and arthropods) of all domesticated animals, importance of parasitic diseases for environmental and public health, preventive medicine against parasitic diseases and make students be aware of modern technological advances in the field of veterinary parasitology
Physical Infrastructure
In the department, there are rutine diagnostic parasitology laboratories. In addition to this; a cell culture and serology laboratories, which are used for researches and has necessary equipments, an entomology unit in which kinds of tick colonies are produced and units of big and small experiment animals are found.
