Objectives of the Course

This course aims to provide doctoral-level students with an in-depth understanding of economic growth. Besides, it aims to provide students with advanced analytical skills and research abilities by addressing the theoretical foundations, empirical findings, and policy debates of economic growth.

Course Content

This PhD level course analyses economic growth theories and empirical findings. The course aims to provide students with advanced analytical skills in the study of economic growth theories, empirical findings, and policy debates. Some of the main topics to be covered in the course are cross-country income differences, income convergence, the technology-growth nexus, and neoclassical economic growth models.

Learning Outcomes
1.Students will demonstrate a thorough understanding of neoclassical theory of economic growth, and their implications for policy and practice.
2.Students will be able to analyze the roles of technological progress, physical capital investment, human capital accumulation, and innovation in driving economic growth.
3.Students will critically evaluate empirical studies to assess the impact on economic growth of different policies and strategies implemented by countries around the world.
4.Students will apply growth models, econometric techniques, and computational tools to analyze real-world data, conduct policy simulations, and evaluate growth-oriented interventions.
5.Students will develop critical thinking skills and the ability to independently research and analyze growth-related topics, contributing to scholarly research and policy analysis in economics.
