Objectives of the Course

The main objective of this course is to focus on the three important phenomenons that have recently been discussed widely. On the one hand the phenomenon of globalization led to the revival of religion in social and gradually in the political life, on the other and for many reasons it caused the political violence. In this course we will examine these three concepts separately by following the world literature. But at the same time will investigate how they affect each other by using popular extremist or terrorist religious groups to gain better insight.

Course Content

Theories of Globalization, the effects of globalization on the social, economic, cultural and political structures of periphery countries. Harvey and Furedi’s arguments of new imperialism. Terrorism and Terrorists (C. Tilly), The geometry of terrorism, the relationship between globalization and terrorism, terrorism of globalization, the future of terrorism and globalization.

Learning Outcomes
1.Grasp the main concepts, themes and debate that associated with globalization, religion and terrorism;
2.While trying to understand and explain the relationship between globalization, religion and terrorism, to evaluate global inequalities by taking into account their causes and consequences;
3.Demonstrate the ability to conduct doctoral-level research by associating globalization, religion and terrorism with current social theory and using sociological research methods and techniques;
4.To be able to comprehend the changing nature and dynamics of change of the studied phenomena and concepts;
5.Develop the ability to take a critical and objective approach when examining the issues of globalization, religion and terrorism;
