Objectives of the Course

This course aims to help students develop their theoretical knowledge and analytical thinking on the debates on the complex interaction among science, technology and society.

Course Content

This course provides an extensive introduction on Science and Technology Studies (STS). STS explores the complex interaction between science, technology and society. Science and technology studies looks at how social, political, cultural, and material conditions shape scientific work and technological development and how science and technology, in turn, shapes society. More broadly, the seminar aims to explore the ways in which society and technology -from simple tools to most complex machinery, including new modes of existence such as artificial intelligence – have always been and will parts of human conditions, power and politics. In this seminar will discuss nature of technology, scientific facts, science as a social institution, expert knowledge, state building, politics and the shaping of economy and society.
