The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the fundamental concepts of media literacy, media systems, and the processes through which media messages are produced; to critically analyze media content, apply news verification techniques, distinguish misinformation and manipulation, evaluate AI-assisted media content, and act as ethical, safe, and responsible individuals in digital media environments.
This course covers the fundamental concepts of media and media literacy, media types, media theories and the social effects of media, critical media literacy, current media literacy concepts, the news production process, journalism ethics, news verification techniques, media ownership and conflicts of interest, misinformation and countering misinformation, AI literacy, cybersecurity, digital life, privacy and digital well-being, social media literacy, and the analysis of current media cases. Students develop media literacy skills through practical activities including news writing, AI-assisted content creation, film analysis, and critical evaluation of media examples.
