Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the basic principles of dairy animal breeding, dairy animal species and breeds, housing, nutrition, milking management, herd health, and farm-level healthy milk production. Students are expected to recognize the breeding systems of different dairy species (cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats), evaluate factors affecting milk yield, and develop strategies for sustainable milk production.

Course Content

Introduction to dairy farming and its status in the world and Turkey. Dairy cattle breeds and their characteristics. Genetic and environmental factors affecting milk yield. Housing systems for dairy cattle. Nutritional principles and ration preparation in dairy cattle. Milking systems and milking techniques. Milking hygiene and healthy milk production. Herd health and disease prevention. Calf rearing. Buffalo milk production and breeding. Sheep milk production and breeding. Goat milk production and breeding.
